I waited until these last few days to send this note to share the most accurate forecast possible.

It has been an extraordinarily hot summer in Italy and in Umbria as well. We have experienced an exceptionally long stretch of summer weather, with temperatures often reaching 90–100°F and, at times, remaining there for weeks on end. It has truly felt as though summer decided not to leave.

But September is beginning to bring a welcome change. The forecast for our week together, from September 8 through 15, looks generally with warm days, sunshine (max 90 degree F), and the mornings (around 65 degree F) with the first hints of the softer temperatures of early autumn. Evenings (about 80 degrees F) should be noticeably cooler and, I hope, particularly lovely for our dinners and evenings together.

As always, the weather in the evenings of Umbria can be wonderfully chilly, so I recommend bringing light summer clothes for the daytime, a jacket or a wrap for the evenings.

After such a remarkably hot summer, I am especially looking forward to this time of year. The countryside is still golden and sun-filled, the vineyards are heavy with grapes, and there is that unmistakable feeling that summer is slowly giving way to autumn.
